Designer Wedding Rings for Men

High-end stylish jewelry makes an important statement for the wearer. It says: I appreciate the finer things in life. I appreciate the art of the jewelry designer, and I can afford to indulge myself. Hopefully it also says that I have taste. Unfortunately money can’t buy that.
Designer Wedding Rings

Some jewelry is functional, such as medic alert bracelets or military metals and the infamous “dog tags”. But in general, it is used either as a personal expression, a decoration, or a symbol.
Any designer creating high-end jewelry of any kind must take into account the value of the piece that they are creating. The settings are usually crafted in precious metals such as gold and platinum. North Americans and Europeans generally set these two metals as the standard for men’s and women’s wedding rings and other luxury jewelry.
Wedding Rings for Men

There are unique problems in designing men’s jewelry, since personal adornment for males is only emerging today after decades when a watch was the only acceptable male accessory. Today wedding rings for men have become popular, and the majority of married men wear them.
The delicate filigree possible in the setting of a woman’s engagement and wedding ring is not an option for a man’s wedding ring. The style must embody a strongly masculine element while expressing the refinement of the wearer. This can be a great challenge for the designer of high end men’s wedding bands.
Rings for Men

The designer cannot rely on the beauty and brilliance of a good quality center stone, as use of a spectacular gemstone as the outstanding feature of a ring is usually reserved for the woman’s engagement ring. Of course, men’s engagement rings are making a slow appearance on the market, but are still not as universally worn as the wedding ring.

A man’s hand is larger than a woman’s, and like a watch, the man’s wedding bands are considerably heavier and thicker than the woman’s ring. How wide the design should be depends on the size of the hand and the comfort level of the ring. A wedding ring is not like a pair of shoes, where it is acceptable to grin and bear an uncomfortable designer label product for one night. A man’s wedding ring is something that is worn every day, and for many years.
Wedding Bands

It is obvious that the designer and manufacturer of stylish men’s high- end wedding rings, has some limitations and unique concerns that do not exist in the creation of women’s bridal jewelry. It is true talent and the work of an artist when a men’s wedding ring can express the class and importance of a man, be suitable for jeans or a suit, as well as being comfortable and long lasting. More and more men are choosing rings with accent diamonds, and it speaks well of a design that the wedding band can maintain its masculine elements while introducing top quality gemstones.

Best Anniversary,Engagement,Wedding Rings

Here’s an interesting story: in the 1960’s, De Beers were forced to buy a large stock of Russian diamonds so that they could maintain their control on the diamond market. They had successfully marketed diamonds as THE symbol of eternal love in engagement and wedding rings, but these were larger stones. What to do with all these small stones?

That is how the De Beers ten-year anniversary ring came into being. This was a solid band set with diamonds that was to symbolize the love still strong in the marriage at the 10th anniversary. Having been an important element in the popularization of the diamond engagement ring, as well as wedding bands set with diamonds, the company approached the marketing of this new product with fervor.
In actual fact, eternity rings, which are the same design as anniversary rings, were in existence as far back as the time of the Egyptians. They symbolized eternal love and commitment with an unbroken circlet set completely with diamonds. The original rings were “flush” mounted, set directly into the metal. This made the rings comfortable to wear.
Today the channel setting is very popular for anniversary or eternity rings. The stones are held in place by “channels” metal, creating an even surface that is easy to wear without hurting the adjoining fingers.  Diamonds set with prongs could be extremely uncomfortable, so the design of some anniversary and eternity rings evolved so that only the front half of the ring was set with stones.
New designs and settings have improved the comfort factor of the pronged setting so that a band fully set in pronged diamonds is now a viable choice.
De Beers marketed these rings as a tenth anniversary gift, but today they are used to commemorate the birth of a child, or any other important event in a couple’s life. They are very popular in place of traditional wedding bands as part of the bridal set.

There is no set way to wear an anniversary or eternity ring. You can use it in place of a wedding ring, or combine it with your existing set. If the new ring does not match the engagement and wedding ring in size or complexity of design, you might choose to wear it on your right hand instead of left.  Your choice of how you wear your anniversary or eternity band will be dictated by the style of the existing rings, and how comfortable they feel. It would certainly be a bad idea to think you are fated to wear an uncomfortable eternity ring for…well… eternity, just because a fashion dictated a particular style.

Mens Wedding Rings Architectures

It’s not often that I have a visceral reaction to a product I see advertised. But flipping through a jewelry magazine one day, I came across an ad on the back page for men’s wedding bands that simply took my breath away.
I have both a technical (engineering) and a creative background so the slogan “Where Architecture Meets Art…” spoke volumes to me.  I could immediately see the beauty and clarity of the lines, both satisfying in structure and design.
The Carlex line of men’s rings was established in 2008 as part of the CrownRing stable.  Intended as a wedding band, I could see these rings also being worn for the sheer beauty of the pieces. Carlex themselves are encouraging potential customers to include their architectural line of rings in their choices for a special “right hand” ring.
While they were originally promoted as jewelry for men, many women would be as enchanted with the rings as I am. The rings are decidedly unisex, with designs that range from tough and masculine, to clean and softer lines that would fit beautifully on any woman’s hand.
Of course, in terms of the special day, men do make up 90% of the customer base for matrimonial jewelry, so it made sense to bring out a strong line of wedding rings intended for the groom.
In the visualization stage of the exclusive line Thierry Bellisha, the creative genius behind Carlex, evaluated what jewelry men are most likely to favor.
“We wanted to create a really sleek wedding ring for men…and I realized the one piece of jewelry a man wears with confidence is a wrist watch.”
Taking Rolex and Cartier as being highly desired brands in the world of watches, he was inspired to create a line of rings strongly reminiscent of watch bands from both companies. The result was “Carlex”, a distinctive collection of wedding rings designed to “[pay] homage to these two iconic labels”.
The materials used and the transference of the design shapes to a different medium give the rings a decidedly modern, cutting edge industrial look. There is a solid feel, a circle that is strong enough to endure the strains put on the average marriage.
New technology has made possible the exacting architecture of the rings. Carlex uses specialized machinery that can be programmed to perform all the tasks required to cut and polish individual rings with precision.  Each unit costs $750,000.00 and Carlex shares five of them with their mother company CrownRing. This state-of-the-art machinery represented a huge financial risk for the company, but it has turned out to be the wisest decision that Bellisha and his partner Haimy Mann (founders of CrownRing and Carlex) could have made.
The Carlex collection has been a success both nationally and internationally. While 100 dealers currently carry the line, the goal is to place the rings in at least 250 of the 500 retail stores already handling CrownRing’s products by the year 2012. To achieve this goal Carlex is launching an aggressive marketing campaign, so expect to become very familiar with these rings.
And don’t just think of them in terms of weddings, every ring in this collection is like a wearable sculpture that will leave a lasting impression no matter what the occasion.

The elements and architecture of Jewelry design

The first thought that enters most people’s minds when envisioning a piece of jewelry is the look and feel of the piece. What most people do not consider is the structural design, the “architecture” of each piece.
There are many elements that go into the creation of a quality piece of jewelry: line, textures, materials, comfort, durability, and relationship to the human form are some of the important essentials of design that must be addressed.
The Carlex line of men’s wedding bands is advertised as “When Art meets Architecture”, which is a very accurate depiction of the unique collection. CrownRing, who created Carlex, have been producing high quality matrimonial jewelry since 1999. They have invested heavily in cutting edge technology that allows them the precision necessary to replicate the structurally perfect engineering that is the cornerstone of all their pieces.
Now the Carlex line allows them to experiment with new designs and materials. The inspiration for the rings is the prestigious Rolex and Cartier watches. Translating the basic lines of the watches to another medium is a challenging task, but the resulting distinctive rings are a major breakthrough in modern jewelry design. Promoted as a wedding band for men, the strong industrialized feel of the basic lines are tempered by the various textures provided by diamonds and a brushed look to some of the surfaces. The rings are suitable for men or women to wear as matrimonial jewelry or as an every day piece.
For centuries the traditional wedding ring was yellow gold, with colored stones such as emeralds, rubies, and sapphires for the woman’s engagement ring.  This morphed into white gold with diamonds as the center piece. Because of the cost, platinum was used in high priced pieces. Rose gold also became popular.
Today there is a large choice of materials and colors available, adding new possibilities to the ring designer’s palette. Titanium and palladium are widely used, both because of price and for its “look”. Palladium has the appearance of platinum, but is a fraction of the price.
Carlex has taken advantage of some of the new metals to create solid and bold designs. They have also succeeded in replicating these looks in the traditional gold and platinum mediums. The pieces are available in a wide range of colors, some resulting in a uniquely feminine facade on a masculine inspired design. “Made for a man, but women like it too”, as one advertising motto claims (credit to Irish Spring).
Comfort is a vitally important element that must be considered in the design of any piece of jewelry, and the creators of Carlex have made a collection of rings not just known for their daring lines, but also for their wearability and durability.
The architectural lines of Carlex rings have been made evident so that they are as prominently visual as the art of the designs. The outcome is a unique design that is decidedly modern and a good fit for our high-tech times.

Mens vs Womens Jewelry

It is undeniable that gender characteristics do exist and prove true in many instances. However they are most certainly not completely exclusive to males or females. Adornments have for centuries had unisex appeal, but never more than in current fashions.
Women wear pants. Women wear button down shirts. Men wear pink.
Trends in jewelry design follow the same patterns.
For centuries jewelry for men satisfied the need to put across the image of prosperity as well as serving as adornment, or affiliation to an organization. In modern times practicality above beauty became the design standard for men. Many males stopped wearing anything but what would be considered essential: a watch and often a wedding ring.
Frequently made of what are considered as “masculine” materials such as stainless steel, the jewelry tends to be angular, brushed, and industrial in appearance.
Understated and smaller designs do not always fit well on the male hand. Larger, bolder lines work better. However, truly bulky pieces would be too large for the much smaller female hand, wrist and neck.
The makers of Carlex, a line of rings targeting a masculine market, took the current trends very seriously and incorporated them into their collections. For example, men often seek out plain bracelets, similar to a wristband but minus the watch. The Carlex theme is actually a wristband without the watch…and the wrist.
The watch and the wedding ring, melded into one, with a dash of art and beauty that is the essence of Carlex. The rings are a perfect match to watches with metal wristbands. The clean strong lines honor the designs of both Rolex and Cartier, reflections of success and taste that appreciates classic but modernized lines.
Whether used as a promise, commitment, engagement, or wedding ring the solid construction symbolized the eternal love between a loving couple. These rings were designed to give men options that included beauty and exquisite lines while not losing the masculine core.
To satisfy the taste of the male market, more and more jewelry has incorporated stainless steel, titanium and tungsten in their composition. These metals project a feeling of strength and of durability. Not only will the ring present well in a suit and tie, it will withstand the stress of traditionally male jobs such as mechanics or builders.
But could a woman wear these rings? Would she wear one?
Absolutely!
In many cases the design blurs the gender line. Addition of diamonds and various colored metals create a look that is very satisfying to the female eye. All the models are available in a wide assortment of metals including white, yellow and rose gold. Of course the excellent engineering and architecture of each piece, along with the precision of execution, results in a ring that is comfortable on any finger.
It takes great talent to create a predominantly masculine line of matrimonial jewelry that can rise above the gender divide. Most men will appreciate the look and feel of the Carlex collection, but so will women, not only on their man’s finger, but on their own.
